Winning the Wright way

Bridport Chess Club maintained their unbeaten run to stay top of Dorset's League Division 2 by winning away at Wimborne, in a very tense and hard-fought match. The match began well for Bridport with a superb win from captain Tony Brake and a draw for Colin Winch. Wimborne fought back to win a point in the third game to level the scores.

It was down to man-of-the-match Robert Wright to secure the winning point for Bridport in a very tense fourth and final game. The final score was one and a half points to Wimborne, and two and a half to Bridport. This gives Bridport a two point lead in the Dorset League over rivals Dorchester who they are due to meet  at home in a crucial fixture next week.

Bridport Chess Club meet every Tuesday at the Woodman Inn, South St., from 7.30 onwards. New members and visitors always welcome. See

The team were very pleased to get a draw against last year's champions, Dorchester, which is not an easy fixture. We are hoping to build on this good start and hopefully we can continue it through to the end of the season. Our next match is at home to Weymouth A on 16th December."
